Other Activities

When you vacation at either my Butterfly or Crystal vacation rentals by owner you will be in the Kissimmee/Orlando area (click on the mapquest logo to see the area where you'd be staying).  There are a large number of vacation activities available, in addition to Disney, you might also be interested in knowing about.

While the magic of Disney World is very important to many who come to the Kissimmee/Orlando area, the area is by no means limited to Disney World!  In 1971 when Disney World opened its first park, Magic Kingdom, most people did not imagine Orlando would change from a sleepy orange and cattle farming community to the most visited tourist destination in the world.  While Disney World is still often the first tourist attraction many think of, now with it’s four theme parks, a dozen smaller attractions, two nightclub districts, tens of thousands of hotel rooms, timeshare holdings, scores of eateries, and two cruise ships that operate out of Miami, there are those who have come to know there is a lot more to see and do that is not related to the mouse.

In addition to Universal Orlando and SeaWorld, which offer four more theme parks, there is the rest of the Orlando/Kissimmee area that by itself offers at least another 120 attractions and a mountain of restaurants.  And don’t forget, there are numerous surrounding area day-trip attractions, such as Busch Gardens in nearby Tampa, and a lot, lot more.

Despite the growth in after-hours venues, Kissimmee/Orlando remains a place that among other things caters to tourists, including families, kids and couples.  Just about every restaurant in town has a children's menu.  But, no matter your age, with or without kids, in this city, visitors are the real VIPs.  From the time you get off your plane or drive into town, you know that this is a fun place to visit.  Even the billboards and signage are entertaining!

With all that Kissimmee/Orlando have to offer, a week is just not enough time to visit all of the parks, attractions and surrounding area places of interest.  If you want to pack in all that you can, I recommend you plan your trip – decide what you really, really want to see, so you’re not disappointed!  If on the other hand you are a laid back type that is coming to my Butterfly or Crystal resort vacation rental, say for an off-season romantic get away and will decide where to go on the spur of the moment, these ideas can also be of assistance to you.

Outlet and flee market shopping opportunities, places to go, things to see in and around Orlando Florida.  My goal on this and associated pages is to provide you with a large amount of helpful information that could help you plan your vacation.  I've created this grouping for your convenience.  Just click on whatever topics of information you are interested in reading.

Whatever you want to do while staying at my Butterfly or Crystal resort vacation rental by owner, you have plenty of choices.  But, no matter where you go or what you do, be sure to wear your sunscreen and drink lots of water.  Florida’s sun can give you a serious burn if you are not protected.  Those crazy hats being sold are great for protection!

Local Activities

Kissimmee

Features 75 specialty shops, 8 restaurants, 18 amusement rides, motor cycles on Thursday and different classic car shows every Fri. and Sat.  For my overview of things to do in Old Town, check out my link here.

This rodeo takes place every February at the newly constructed indoor Silver Spurs Arena at Osceola Heritage Park.  It is located just north of the intersection of Florida route 192 and Bill Beck Blvd, which is a bit east toward St. Cloud from Wall Mart and main street (Orange Blossom Trail.)  This rodeo event is on the nationally sanctioned circuit for Rodeo riders.  A number of other events are held here throughout the year, e.g., Lipizzaner Stallions, concerts.  If interested, check the arena's calendar at Silver Spurs Arena.

A NOTE on their website says they're still open, but not holding the Friday night rodeos.  The Kissimmee rodeos took place every Friday night.  It is located near the intersection of Hoagland Blvd and International drive, sort of near Sea World.

You can get a bit of a taste of the swamps and lakes of Florida by taking an airboat ride in Kissimmee without having to take a day's travel to the Everglades.  Click on the airboat to open a link to their website.

 Glades Adventures

Glades Adventures is about a 40-minute drive from my properties and offers guests a thrilling 1-hour journey through the magnificent ecosystem at the headwaters of the everglades aboard Six Passenger 500hp High Performance Airboats. This is quite a contrast to the more common, crowded 18-30 passenger "barge type" boats. Our small air boats are able to access the hard to reach areas that the larger boats cannot.  With Glades Adventures Six Passenger seating format, seating is limited, so reservations are recommended.

Home to thousands of alligators and crocodiles. This half-day adventure includes three educational shows: Gator Wrestling, Gator Jumparoo and Snakes of Florida.

Horse World is located near the Boggy Creek Airboat rides.  It similarly gets you closer to the animals, only these are land animals.

Helicopter Rides

A variety of helicopter rides are offered covering different areas of Kissimmee and Disney.  They vary in length and price.
ADVANCE RESERVATIONS for one Kissimmee based company.
